  • 5G Broadcast (5GB) is a developing protocol for the mobile age and soon will provide existing broadcasters with the game changing ability to deliver content direct-to-mobile (D2M). Instead of each phone requesting the same data stream individually as in cellular (one-to-one approach i.e. unicast), 5G Broadcast sends a single, high-powered signal out to a broad area (one-to-many approach), just as over-the-air TV and radio stations work.

  • Not at all. 5G Broadcast is an independent technology and does not required eSIM/simcard i.e. cellular service, WiFi or Bluetooth to operate.

  • 5G Broadcast can serve the public good by ensuring the delivery of Emergency Alerts in under half a second, streaming linear programming, specialized, encrypted solutions for first responders, and data delivery. When cell service goes down, 5G Broadcasting is a back up.

  • As per 3GPP, 5G Broadcast can be transmitted over Band 108(470-698MHz) and Band 107(612-652MHz). In the USA, broadcastering is restricted to 470-608MHz frequency range.

  • 5G Broadcast (5GB) technology can deliver content directly to smartphones, CPE (customer premises equipment) or any other smart device with a 5G Broadcast enabled modem chip.

  • Not yet. Consumers need to wait for new smart phone models with updated software and chips enabled to receive the 5G Broadcast frequency range.

  • 5G Broadcast allows broadcast signals to be received directly by smart phones and provides additional support for the enormous data consumption needs by mobile devices and CPE’s.

  • Existing TV broadcasting station will need to change only the modulator-exciter and the rest of the OFDM capable infrastructure can remain the same.

  • Radio stations can be delivered directly to a smartphone using 5G Broadcast. However, radio stations cannot use their existing VHF frequencies for 5G Broadcasting.
